ABOUT THE ARTIST

Having owned and loved horses her entire life and foaling a few is the true inspiration behind Donna Thomas' depiction of these beautiful animals. Donna is self-taught in this area and her work ranges from contemporary realism to abstract expressionism. ART GIFTS:
Donna has been featured in Horse in Art Magazine (California), been invited to donate works to a number of equine charitable events thoughout the U.S, as well as to compete in the design of an equine specialty auto tag for the state of Florida. Her works include oil, palette knife, drip and photo encaustic representations of equestrian portraits and scenes.
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, Donna attended the School of Fine Arts at the University of Georgia and studied further under the direction of Philip Carpenter, Jason McGrady, Marc Chatov and Pandra Williams of Atlanta, John de le Vega and Angela Nesbit of NC, Halima Washington of San Francisco, and Stefanie Lieberman of Philadelphia.
Donna considers herself cross-disciplined as she works with a variety of mediums inlcuding oil, photography, encaustic, sculpture, etc.
Residing in Atlanta, Donna is past owner and curator of the GASP Gallery at TULA on Bennett Street and is the founder of The Art School in Sandy Springs www.theartschoolinsandysprings.com, a private art school in Atlanta offering classes and workshops with over twenty accomplished local, regional and international arists on the instructor panel. She will be co-chair of a national call to artist show benefitting TREES ATLANTA in 2009 and will chair the committee for the 2009 Atlanta Artists Center National Show.
Donna is the co-author of a book, "A Studio Guide to Creating Encaustic Art".
Although Donna enjoyes her equestrian work immensely, she also creates works in wire sculpture, palette knife landscapes, and portraits.
