ABOUT THE ARTIST

Having been involved with horses most of her life and owning and foaling a few is the true inspiration behind Donna Thomas' depiction of these beautiful animals.  Donna began painting horses a little over a year ago and is largely self-taught in this area.  Since that time, she has been featured in Horse in Art Magazine (California) and invited to donate works to a number of equine charitable events thoughout the U.S..

B.D. Jeffries
www.bdjeffries.com in the Buckhead area of Atlanta and the South Park area of Charlotte sell a number of her equine works, although Donna predominantly accepts private commissions.  Her works include oil, palette knife and photo encaustic representations of equestrian portraits and scenes.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, Donna attended the School of Fine Arts
at the University of Georgia and has studied under the direction of Philip Carpenter, Jason McGrady, Marc Chatov and Pandra Williams of Atlanta, John de le Vega and Angela Nesbit of NC, Halima Washington of San Francisco and has attended demonstrations by nationally recognized artist Daniel Greene.

Donna considers herself cross-disciplined as she works with a variety of mediums.  Her work style ranges from representational to abstract.  She enjoys sepia and black and white photography with encaustic.

Donna, now resides in Atlanta, is past owner and curator of the GASP Gallery at TULA on Bennett Street and is the founder of The Art School in Sandy Springs www.theartschoolinsandysprings.com, a private art school in Atlanta offering classes and workshops with over twenty accomplished local, regional and international arists on the instructor panel.  Donna is the co-author of a book soon to be released in 2008 entitled "A Studio Guide to Creating Encaustic Art" which provides a simple how to studio guide on the process of working with encaustic medium in painting, photography and mixed media.
